Glass fiber and charred and ashed mineral filled tar is
present. The lower right of center white agglomerate is fully ashed. The black material
still contains charred tar.

Definition/Function:
This is burnt glass fiber/tar composite shingle material. The tar used in the composite is
60% clay filler and 40% tar. The larger mineral grains on the surface of the shingle are not
present in this sample.
Tar soaks into the clay and is somewhat protected from oxidation.
